Our History
The story of Lew Electric began in 1928 when our founder, electrical engineer and inventor Jacob Lewin, filed for his first patent. By 1930, he launched one of the industry's first conduit couplings, setting the stage for decades of growth. Over the next 20 years, Jacob produced 12 foundational products, establishing Lew Electric Fittings in Chicago as a premier leader in commercial floor boxes and fittings.
Evolution into the Home
In the mid-1980s, leadership passed to Jacob’s stepdaughter, Marilyn Romer, and her husband, Jack. During this era, the company expanded its expertise into the residential sector. This period saw the birth of our flagship residential offering, the 812-DFB—affectionately known throughout the industry as the “green box”.

Multi-Generational Growth
Following Jack’s passing in 1999, the third and fourth generations of the family—including Jack and Lynn’s children and grandchildren—took over operations. In 2009, upon Lynn’s passing, generation three members Jeffery Romer, John Romer, and Susan Cozzi assumed controlling ownership. It was during this pivotal time that the company narrowed its focus to creating the largest residential floor box offering in the industry, redefining Lew as a residential staple.
